One company that is headquartered locally and known for providing jobs for San Antonio has been named the best in the nation for employing military spouses.

Military Spouse magazine recently named USAA number one on its fourth annual list of the top Military Spouse Friendly Employers for the second consecutive year. USAA currently employs about 1,686 military spouses and offers special programs that support the unique circumstances facing spouses of those with military jobs.

Employees also have access to a Work Life Referral counselor to help them find alternative child care options during deployments and an intranet site designed to help spouses deal with financial, legal and benefits-related information and guidance.

“We do everything we can to ensure our employees have everything they need to be successful – great training, a superb work environment, support for spouses of deployed service members, growth opportunities, and great child care – just to name a few,” Erica Banks, director of USAA’s Military Programs and a major in the Air Force Reserve, said. “And now we are expanding opportunities across the country and piloting a small number of work‐at‐home opportunities to help make our spouse jobs more mobile.”

Companies were named to the list for their success in hiring and recruiting job seekers among the 1.1 military spouses in the country. Top companies were selected from a pool of about 2,500 that earned a minimum of $1 billion in annual revenues.

Other companies named to the top 10 list include: TriWest Healthcare Alliance; T-Mobile; Army & Air Force Exchange Service; CSC; Adecco; RE/MAX International; The Home Depot; Health New Inc.; and Kelly Services, Inc.

“For decades corporations have resisted hiring military spouses, using their transient lifestyles as an excuse to hire civilians instead,” Babette Maxwell, co‐founder and executive editor of Military Spouse, said. “Technology has ushered in a more mobile workplace, plus corporate America recognizes the key to success is choosing the best possible employees.”
