This could be your company’s pièce de résistance – the perk that sets your company apart from the competition and improves recruiting and retention efforts.

Nearly three out of every four workers (72%) say that a company that offers better technology to its employees is more attractive. Among Gen Y workers (those aged 18 to 29), that number skyrockets to 92%.

Wanted perks: Smartphones, tablets

Bottom line: Employees want their hands on the latest technology — and not just a good computer (that’s a given). Today’s employees also want smartphones, tablets and presentation tools.

Nearly two-thirds (65%) of workers say having up-to-date technology readily available for employees is vital to an organization’s success, and half of all workers say they consider the level of technology available at a workplace when searching for a job (75% of Gen Yers consider this).

The bad news: Only 45% of employees feel their workplace makes the most up-to-date technology available to all employees.

This data comes from a 2012 Workplace Options survey of 556 working Americans.

Other findings:

  • 22% said they’d quit or change jobs if they didn’t have access to the latest technology
  • 53% said having up-to-date technology was absolutely necessary for them to do their jobs properly, and
  • 72% say over the past five years their reliance on technology has increased (and 46% say it has increased significantly).
