Say what you want about Millennials. One thing they care care about: securing a place in the workforce.

A recent survey by InternMatch found the majority of today’s interns are hardworking, competitive applicants.

How hardworking are they? Well, 17.4% of students now complete their first internship in high school. And while most college freshman are still trying to figure out what they’re going to major in, 16.5% are wrapping up their first internship. And by the end of sophomore year, nearly 59% of students already have one internship under their belt.

And these students aren’t relying on experience from just one internship. Before taking an entry-level job, 26.5% of students complete two internships, 19% complete three and nearly 14% complete at least four. Only 40.7% of students finish only one internship before taking an entry-level job.

What’s more, 58.9% of students said the most important part of their internships was gaining experience and building a portfolio. Only 8.8% said they were in it for the money.

They’re also planning ahead of time. Almost 47% of students begin looking for an internship one to three months before they plan on starting the job. And another 32.6% start looking more than three months in advance of their start date.

And if you’re looking for ways to set your internship apart from the others, consider this: 55% of students said they would be more likely to apply for a role if they could work outside of the office at least once a week. And another 59.3% said they would be open to virtual internships.

One last thing to keep in mind: You might want to improve your site’s SEO, because 42.6% of students use Google Search to help them find internships. Today’s students have plenty of options when it comes to hunting for internships, and if your company doesn’t show up on a simple Google Search, how will they find you?
