The 4th Annual Peoples Choice Best Nonprofit to Work for Awards from Opportunity Knocks provides a great list of potential nonprofit employers. The 15 winners were separated based on three categories of operating budget size.

The companies were chosen based on essays from employees explaining why their organization is a great place to work. Employees could take into account such factors as quality of work/life balance, the organization’s mission, comradery of employees, unique benefits, training programs, and career paths.

Operating budget of $1 million to $5 million

  • Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance

Operating budget of $5 Million or More

  • Special People in Northeast
  • Stand for Children
  • ACDI/VOCA
  • National Outdoor Leadership School
  • New Leaders for New Schools
  • Stanford University

“Opportunity Knocks celebrates the rewards of working in the nonprofit sector, by honoring those organizations who do it best,” Karen Beavor, president and CEO of Opportunity Knocks, said in a statement. “Our annual Best Nonprofit To Work For Awards provide nonprofit professionals a platform to give recognition to the organizations providing top quality work environments for people doing ‘jobs that change the world.’

“The enthusiasm of our nominators for their employers demonstrates how nonprofits can not only make a difference in the community but also have an incredibly positive impact on the lives of the people that work for them,” she added.
